Abstract:
Stop the madness: the only reason why buildings exist is for
people yet less than 1% of design practitioners can complete
a compliance check to ASHRAE Standard 55 Thermal
Environmental Conditions for Human Occupancy. Healing is a
three-step program.
1. Introduction to Thermal Comfort and ASHRAE Standard 55.
2. Thermal Intimacy: When health science meets building
science
3. Conquering Compliance with Standard 55: Online Thermal
Comfort Tools for Designing Buildings and HVAC Systems

Fig.1 Building codes do not represent thermal
comfort, nor do load calculations and HVAC design. Thermal
comfort is sensed and perceived by the occupants and is a
function of 11 key metrics that when correctly assessed and
resolved reduce the discomfort in spaces.
